Process Palooza @ UC San Diego Extends Invitation to UC System in Year Two
As a university that encourages resourcefulness and creative problem-solving, the University of California San Diego has become an incubator for process improvement. On December 12, hundreds of innovators and change champions will converge at the University of California San Diego for the second annual Process Palooza conference.
Launched in 2017, Process Palooza brings together faculty, staff and alumni for a chance to compete, learn and initiate a practice of change. This year the movement extends an open invitation to all University of California campuses. Co-hosted by UC San Diego’s IT Services and Extension, this annual event showcases process improvement using Lean Six Sigma and continuous improvement practices. It aligns new practitioners with seasoned professionals to give them the resources they need to support the mission of the campus.
“Process Palooza is an outgrowth of UC San Diego’s strategic planning process and our desire to develop a shared vision around solutions to our major challenges. It’s an engaging event of ideas, competitions and speakers,” said UC San Diego Chancellor Pradeep K. Khosla. “I encourage everyone to attend Process Palooza and join the continuous improvement movement sweeping campus.”
Last year’s inaugural conference, Process Palooza: Leaning Toward Success, attracted more than 500 registrants. The results were show-stopping with 30 practical improvement ideas across two very large campus processes and the launch of two infrastructures to sustain results, Lean Bench and Business Excellence Community of Practice.
Set to take place on December 12, 2018 at UC San Diego’s Price Center, Process Palooza 2018: Empowering Change for the Better, will include several tracks of speakers, games, a red-carpet experience, an expo, campus tours and much more. Selected participants will get the chance to compete in the The Great LSS Race and flex their Lean Six Sigma skills.
“At Process Palooza we shake off perceptions that process improvement is mundane or something someone else does. By encouraging and empowering attendees, we say, ‘Try it – learn it – live it!’" says Process Palooza Chair, Lynn Underwood "We’re proud of Process Palooza and the recognition earned. So what better way to spread the word about how UC San Diego takes risks, makes investments and the people who make it happen?"
Keynote speakers include Rachel Nava, Executive Vice President, Chief Operating Officer, Chief of Staff to the President, University of California; Elizabeth H. Simmons, Executive Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs at UC San Diego; Eliud Escobedo, Director, Business Transformation & Innovation, Resource Management & Planning, UC San Diego; Todd Hylton, Executive Director of the Contextual Robotics Institute, UC San Diego and Alex Wu, Web & Mobile Technology Services Team Lead, IT Services, UC San Diego.
