About Process Palooza: Tuesday Signature Sessions

tracy-screen-shot-2.jpgHear from global thought leaders on how they apply and leverage our theme of "The Power of Continuous Improvement."  These aren't sit-back-and-relax webinars. Process Palooza sessions are fast-paced, engaging and interactive. Prepare to think, participate and win prizes!

May 11: The Power of Continuous Improvement

To kick off Process Palooza 2021, you'll hear straight from UC San Diego leadership - Chancellor Pradeep Khosla and Executive Vice Chancellor Elizabeth H. Simmons - on the role of continuous improvement in shaping the university's strategic plan and forming a response to COVID-19.

Up next, best-selling author and multiple Guinness World Record holder Chase Boehringer flips the script on a traditional process-oriented view and explores the role that people play in continuous improvement. "Why not you?" he'll ask, before leaving you empowered and inspired to become your own change maker.

May 18: UC San Diego’s Continuous Improvement Journey

Join us for insights on how continuous improvement shapes UC San Diego operations.

First up: Return to Learn, UC San Diego's nationally-recognized approach to re-opening campus for limited operations with innovations like outdoor classrooms, COVID-19 testing vending machines and wastewater detection. The project is supported by a sophisticated continuous improvement and Lean Six Sigma framework.

Then we'll check in with other program leaders driving process improvement initiatives, including the Lean Bench, Transformational Healthcare, and the Office of Operational Strategic Initiatives.

May 25: Lean in Higher Education

Lean principles are in practice in all four corners of the globe. During this session, we'll prove it!

The session starts with an interview of William K. Balzer, author of Lean in Higher Education. He'll touch on his experience with Lean at multiple universities, then leave us pondering the big questions, such as how to truly and seamlessly incorporate Lean into the core teaching and learning mission.

Then, grab your (virtual) passport and ticket for a trip around the world. We'll check in with higher education Lean practitioners from Australia, Norway, the United Kingdom and the United States. It's all wrapped up in the form of a PechaKucha competition! And if you don't know what a PechaKucha is - all the more reason to join in and find out.

Non-profits and community organizations must be extra diligent in how they spend time, funds and other resources. Hear inspiring stories of organizations that have embraced the continuous improvement mindset to make a different in their community!

Vince Kellen, UC San Diego Chief Information Officer, leads off with ruminations on the personal nature of continuous improvement.
