    Chancellor Pradeep Khosla

    Pradeep K. Khosla, Chancellor, UC San Diego 
     
    Pradeep K. Khosla became UC San Diego’s eighth Chancellor on August 1, 2012. As UC San Diego’s chief executive officer, he leads a campus with more than 43,000 students; seven undergraduate colleges; and 12 academic, graduate and professional schools. UC San Diego is also home to the prestigious Scripps Institution of Oceanography and the UC San Diego Health System. With annual revenues of $6.9 billion in fiscal year 2022, UC San Diego is an academic and research powerhouse, with faculty, researchers and staff attracting more than $1.64 billion in sponsored research in fiscal year 2022. UC San Diego is recognized as one of the top 15 research universities in the world and is the largest civilian employer based in San Diego County.

  • AVC Marie Carter-Dubois

    AVC Marie Carter-Dubois

    Marie Carter-Dubois serves as the Associate Vice Chancellor for Resource Administration in Academic Affairs.  She provides financial guidance and administrative support to UCSD’s schools and colleges, academic departments, and other units, helping them plan and execute their strategies and meet their financial and budgetary objectives.   

    Marie began her higher education career at the University of California San Francisco.  Her career took her to Stanford, then to the University of California Davis where she served as Assistant Dean for Finance at the School of Education, then Assistant Vice Chancellor and Chief of Staff for the Provost.  Immediately prior to UCSD, she held several financial and change management leadership positions at the University of Washington School of Medicine in Seattle. 

    Marie holds an MBA from the Ecole des Hautes Etudes Commerciales in Paris (HEC), a joint Masters in strategy from the Ecole Superieure de Commerce de Paris (ESCP) and from the Sorbonne.
  • CIO Vince Kellen

    CIO Vince Kellen

    Vince Kellen is the Chief Information Officer for the University of California, San Diego, as well as a member of the Chancellor's Cabinet, and vice chancellor and chief financial officer's senior management team. UC San Diego is recognized as a top 15 university world-wide and 7th best public university in the world, with over $1.1 billion in annual research funding, 36,000 students, 16 Nobel laureates who have taught on its campus and 161 faculty with national Academy memberships.

    Vince's recent work has been in the areas of student success and learning analytics and application of advanced technology in higher education. Vince is a recipient of the CIO Magazine “Top 100” award in 2007 and 2014, was one of InformationWeek’s “Chiefs of the Year” in 2013, received the Computerworld “Honors Laureate” award in 2013, and was one of four recipients selected globally for Dell’s 2012 “Transformational CIO” award. Vince has authored more than 220 articles, four books and more than 150 presentation on IT topics and is a Fellow with Cutter Consortium, a leading IT industry think tank, where writes on digital transformation and data and analytics topics.

    Vince is a Board of Director member for IMS Global and has served on advisory boards for Apple, Microsoft, Dell, SAP, AT&T and Blackboard. He was previously CIO and Senior Vice Provost at University of Kentucky and CIO at DePaul University. Before his tenure in higher education, Dr. Kellen was an IT strategy consultant working with Fortune 500 firms on marketing and CRM digital transformations. Vince has taught graduate and undergraduate courses on IT strategy, information strategy, and enterprise systems at DePaul University and University of Kentucky. He earned his Ph.D. in computer science, an M.S. degree in information systems, and a B.A. degree in communications all from DePaul University in Chicago, Illinois.

  • Dean Hugo Villar

    Dean Hugo Villar

    Hugo O. Villar is currently Associate Dean for Professional and Continuing Education at UC San Diego Extension, where he oversees programs in areas as diverse as Arts and Humanities, Education, Engineering , Healthcare, Applied Math, Life Sciences and Business. His technical interest has been in the application of computers to diverse problems in the life sciences and development of new technologies for the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries. Dr. Villar holds a Ph.D. in Chemistry from the Universidad Nacional de La Plata (Argentina) and a Masters in Business Administration, with emphasis on Health Care and Pharmaceutical Management from the University of Colorado.

  • VC Alysson Satterlund

    VC Alysson Satterlund

    Dr. Alysson Satterlund serves as the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs at UC San Diego where she oversees a wide range of student services and programs including student retention and success, student life, recreation, global initiatives, student conduct, case management services, and student affairs assessment, evaluation and organizational development. 
     
    Dr. Satterlund has served in student affairs leadership roles in both public and private universities for the past 26 years. A first-generation college graduate, Dr. Satterlund is deeply committed to initiatives related to diversity, inclusion and retention and is inspired each day to pay forward the transformational opportunities that educational access has had on her life.  
     
    Dr. Satterlund earned a Ph.D. in Interpersonal and Organizational Communication Studies from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and her Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees at California State University, Chico.
  • AVC Carlos Jensen

    AVC Carlos Jensen

    Carlos Jensen joined UC San Diego and the Executive Vice Chancellor (EVC) team in 2020. He is a champion of experiential learning and has extensive leadership experience in public education, with a strong emphasis on teaching excellence, educational innovation and access, and enhancing the student experience. As AVC-EI, he leads our campus educational innovation efforts, designed to stimulate the development of new academic programs and infrastructures in support of our strategic priorities for diversity and access, the student experience, organizational sustainability, and more. In this capacity, Carlos oversees the Teaching + Learning Commons, which promotes educational excellence through comprehensive services for students and educators.   
      
    Before joining UC San Diego, Dr. Jensen served as Associate Dean of Undergraduate Programs in the College of Engineering at Oregon State University, and an Associate Professor in Computer Science. He holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the Georgia Institute of Technology.
  • AVC Hemlata Jhaveri

    AVC Hemlata Jhaveri

    Hemlata Jhaveri is the Associate Vice Chancellor of Housing, Dining and Hospitality (HDH). She joined UC San Diego in April 2018. Hemlata oversees the third largest student housing inventory in the nation, with more than 18,000 beds on campus in 2022. 
      
    Hemlata received her Ph.D. at Colorado State University, Fort Collins and MBA at Illinois State University. Hemlata was inducted as a Diamond Honoree at the American College Personnel Association – College Student Educators International in 2013 for outstanding and sustained contributions to the field of higher education and student affairs.

  • Jim Athon

    Jim Athon

    Jim Athon is a Continuous Improvement COE leader and Lean Six Sigma Master Black Belt. He has had nearly 25-years of success in driving process improvement methodologies, principles, and best practices. Since 2001, Jim has served as the President of The Athon Group, Inc., a premier supplier of Lean Six Sigma training, coaching, and consulting services at all levels of Lean Six Sigma deployment, including Executive Leadership, Champion, Master Black Belt, Black Belt, and Green Belt. He has personally trained and coached over 500 Black Belts and over 200 Green Belts, with his primary focus being teaching the DMAIC (Define-Measure-Analyze-Improve-Control) problem-solving framework. 

    After earning a Master Black Belt at General Electric, Jim has led Lean Six Sigma projects for prominent organizations such as Target, Chevron, Cisco, Nokia, Kraft Foods, Schwab, and Adena Health Systems, and spearheaded over 42 million in revenue gains. He is a catalyst for standardization of processes, digital transformation, technology optimization, and is passionate about transforming inefficient and error-prone activities into lean, efficient, and repeatable processes.  

    As a Lean Six Sigma expert and trainer, Jim has presented at over 30 industry seminars. His vast experience and unique ability to communicate complex concepts into commonly understood language and relatable examples make him an exceptional coach and mentor. 

    Jim also proudly served for 10-years in the US Air Force Reserve & was honorably discharged as E5 Staff Sergeant.
  • Tehseen Lazzouni

    Tehseen Lazzouni

    Tehseen Lazzouni is a Financial Analyst in the Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry where she brings her professionalism and creativity to work toward solving problems and creating efficiencies. She holds a Lean Six Sigma (LSS) Green Belt from UCSD Extension and was a competitor in UCSD's inaugural Process Palooza (2017) where her team "Turquoise Top Guns" was a winner! She is a big fan of Lean Six Sigma and the DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve & Control) method of process improvement. 
     
    In addition to her work at UCSD, Tehseen is an officer of UCSD Torrey Pines Speakers Toastmasters Club where she helps new speakers gain confidence speaking in front of audiences. She is also the founder of the Islamic Speakers Bureau of San Diego, which has been educating the San Diego community about her religion in an effort to engender peace and respect among people of diverse faiths. Tehseen holds a Bachelor's degree in Management Science from UCSD and an MBA in Marketing from SDSU.
  • Tracy O'Rourke

    Tracy O'Rourke

    Tracy O’Rourke, a Lean Six Sigma Master Black Belt, is the Co-Founder of the Just-in-Time Cafe and a co-author of the book, "The Problem-Solver's Toolkit: A Surprisingly Simple Guide to Your Lean Six Sigma Journey".  By sharing over 20 years of expertise, she makes it easier for people to learn and apply Lean Six Sigma to achieve their goals. 
     
    Tracy got her start as a Six Sigma Black Belt at GE Appliances in the late 1990s with Jack Welch at the helm and subsequently became a Lean Six Sigma consultant. She is an accomplished facilitator, trainer, coach and presenter. She has trained over 2,000 people, mentored 500+ people and has helped complete 400+ projects with results that range between $50,000 and $8 million dollars in savings.
  • Miguel Rodriguez

    Miguel Rodriguez

    Miguel Rodriguez is an Educational Technology Analyst with the University of California, San Diego. He loves helping faculty to realize their instructional goals by connecting them to the services and resources that provide the right support. As an outgoing personality, Miguel spent 2022 serving as the committee chair for UC Tech, a ten-campus general technology conference, where he led a stellar team that built a complex and successful hybrid conference in half the normal planning time. He looks forward to continuing to build a strong working relationship among the various teams across Information Technology Services, as well as with the faculty, students, and staff they serve.  

    Even though he has had a bio written for a long time, he was curious enough to ask ChatGPT to take a shot at writing this one. It . . . wasn't great, so he decided to just knock it out himself.

  • Mojgan Amini

    Mojgan Amini

    Mojgan Amini, M.S. Computer Science, Lean Six Sigma Black Belt, serves as the Director of Process Management & Continuous Improvement at UC San Diego's Information Technology Services department. She and her group provide frameworks, guidelines, communication channels and standards to simplify IT Service Management, Project and Portfolio Management, Governance, Organizational Change Management, Culture and Outreach across UC San Diego and in coordination with the UC system. Mojgan has served as the chair of the Business Excellence Community of Practice at UC San Diego, as well as the chair of the University of California IT Architecture Group. She currently serves as chair of the UC Tech Community Engagement Committee.

    Kate Balderston

    Kate has worked for UC San Diego since 2014, where she enjoys managing large and complex projects that aim to improve the student, faculty, and staff experience. She believes that the key to achieving success is to establish engaging relationships that support open communication, foster collaboration, and challenge its members to make a difference.

  • Tana Troke Campana

    Tana Troke Campana

    Tana Troke Campana is the Senior Assistant Dean and Chief of Staff at the Jacobs School of Engineering.  In her role, Tana works directly with Jacobs School of Engineering's Dean, Associate Deans, Department Chairs, and academic and administrative senior leaders on strategic planning, implementation of the dean's vision, and oversight of the School’s finances, capital planning, IT, all other administrative operations. In 2015, Tana developed and implemented a schoolwide Lean Six Sigma-based administrative best practices initiative, now expanded across the campus with 19 new tools to date.    

    Tana is a UC San Diego LEAD Fellow, STRIVE mentor, Academic Affairs Best Practices Co-Chair, UC San Diego's 2022 YWCA TWIN Awardee, and member of many campus-wide committees. Her prior roles at UC San Diego include Administrative Vice Chair for the Department of Family Medicine and Public Health and Assistant Dean for Medical Education. Prior to joining UC San Diego, Tana held multiple management roles at UC Irvine and UC San Francisco and served as the CAO and IT director at a K-12 public school in New York. Tana holds an MBA and BS in Information Systems, both from the University of Redlands. 

  • Christine Ching

    Christine Ching

    Christine is a new member within our SAIS ITS group. Prior to joining UC San Diego, she worked at Sony for over 22 years supporting their Electronics Commerce, and Sony Interactive Entertainment PlayStation IT divisions. In her last role she served as a Financial Systems Business Analyst where she facilitated the onboarding of global video and music streaming services, country expansion, and a new royalty management platform for the PlayStation Network. Christine is excited to be a part of UC San Diego and is looking forward to supporting the implementation of system solutions
  • Ahren Crickard

    Ahren Crickard

    Since 2001, Ahren has worked with the Office of the Executive Vice Chancellor and Chancellor on various strategic academic initiatives. Her skills in continuous improvement, process efficiency, and change management are utilized to examine business processes, as well. By trade, she is an attorney, but she is also a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt.
  • Pauline Deguzman

    Pauline Deguzman

    Pauline has worked in international education for over a decade and enjoys navigating the ins and outs of immigration policy. On her spare time, she enjoys crafting with her Silhouette Cameo, exploring San Diego with her family, and cooking.
  • Eliud Escobedo

    Eliud Escobedo

    Eliud has worked at UC San Diego since 2006 and most recently joined the Resource Management & Planning’s (RMP) senior management team as a Business Process Innovation Manager and chair of the RMP IS Advisory Group. In his current role, he manages the $5M RMP IT initiatives Portfolio to ensure best practices and that priorities align with strategy and business needs. This process includes strategic planning, business case development and ROI/risk analysis to realize project value. Eliud implemented a methodology to score projects; and operationalized a process for evaluating IT enablement needs with the goal of prioritizing investments and focusing IT resources on work that will make the largest business impact.

    In his previous role as Transportation Services Sr. Planner, Eliud participated in the first Transportation and Parking Services Strategic Plan using the Balanced Score Card methodology, resulting in a series of initiatives to improve customer satisfaction, stabilize financial standing and improve self-service capabilities.
  • Heather Fowler Zion

    Heather Fowler Zion

    Heather Fowler Zion is a member of the Data and Compensation Initiatives team and provides support on the development and implementation of compensation policy, programs, and data initiatives for academics at UCSD. She serves as a second liaison for Office of the President and other UC campuses on system-wide academic compensation and data reporting matters. She is the HR/AP back-up for the UCPath project and coordinates GCCP, faculty administrator stipend approvals, chair's appointments, FSEP requests, and UCPath related questions connected to academic compensation.
  • Darcy Frailey

    Darcy Frailey

    Darcy is a Senior Strategic Initiatives Manager with OSI and has worked with the team for 3+ years. Darcy has prior experience at both Deloitte Consulting as a Senior Human Capital Consultant, and American University (Washington, D.C.) leading student center facilities logistics and operations. 
      
    Darcy enjoys building positive people-focused experiences leveraging his years in higher education, information technology, team and program development, strategic planning and analysis, change management, and process improvement. 
      
    He holds a Bachelor's in Business Administration, a Master's in Organizational Development & Leadership from Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania, and is certified in Prosci Change Management and Lean Six Sigma.
      
    Outside of the office, Darcy enjoys stand-up paddle boarding around San Diego and cheering for any and all Philadelphia sports teams.
  • Ashley Gambhir

    Ashley Gambhir

    Ashley has worked at UC San Diego since 2006 and currently serves as Senior Director of Transformational Healthcare & Ambulatory Innovation for the UC San Diego Health Physician Group.  She is a results-driven professional committed to the ongoing and growing success of UC San Diego with experience driving strategy and building operational excellence. Ashley is a certified project manager, certified change practitioner and a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt. She has a proven ability to lead teams through change in order to maximize efficiencies and innovation.
  • Kris Hergert

    Kris Hergert

    Kris is the Director, Innovation Strategy for the Office of Strategic Initiatives (OSI). He drafts and drives the strategy of running innovation crowdsourcing campaigns and project deliverables for IdeaWave as well as administers ideation tools to integrate quantitative and qualitative data for continuous improvement for higher education clients across the United States. Kris has spent over 11 years working in multi-campus, multidisciplinary research universities leading innovative career centers and entrepreneurship teams. He grew up in Connecticut, is an accomplished athlete rowing UNC Division I Crew and finishing 3x Iron Man competitions, an aficionado of San Diego coffee, and always sports a blue dress shirt in the office.
  • Zach Herman

    Zach Herman

    Zach Herman has over 20 years of experience in Project and Program Management with a focus on helping people understand Project Management, and prepare for a career in the field. Zach is currently the Associate Director for the Project Management Office in the Information Services department at UC San Diego Health, and has overseen large-scale programs in Healthcare for over 10 years with a focus on Process Improvement and Implementation Best Practices. Zach holds a Master’s degree in Business Administration, a Project Management Professional Certification (PMP), a Disciplined Agile Scrum Master (DASM) and a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt (LSSBB).
  • Paul Krueger

    Paul Krueger

    Paul is a technical project manager at UC San Diego IT Services and manages a wide range of projects throughout the organization while also regularly implementing project management process improvements for the Project Portfolio Management Office.  

    Paul assisted in Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt training for UC San Diego staff as well as earned his Green Belt at UC San Diego Extension with the Media Event Support Process Improvement, which has far exceeded its projected savings.

    Paul was on one of the winning teams (Turquoise Top Guns) of the inaugural UC San Diego Process Palooza, was one of the “Emcees” of the 2018 Process Palooza, planned the 2019 Continuous Improvement Summit and, while in the planning stages of the 2020 Process Palooza, helped to transition the event to a series of online events called “Palooza Tuesdays” due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

    Paul served five years in the U.S. Navy (including one year in Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom as an Assistant Operations Officer) where he successfully planned and executed over two hundred air and ground combat and civil affairs missions. Following military service, Paul completed his BA in history at San Diego State University, earned the Project Management Certificate at UC San Diego Extension, and was Veterans Coordinator at Southwestern College before joining UC San Diego.
  • LaKeshia Lindsey

    LaKeshia Lindsey

    LaKeshia Lindsey is a Senior Strategic Initiatives Analyst. She joined the Office of Operational Strategic Initiatives (OSI) in 2021 and leverages her background in relationship building, process improvement, and small group facilitation. Her prior experience includes serving as the Program Manager for a local nonprofit that focuses on mentoring girls of color. LaKeshia holds a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration from National University, and a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt certification from UC San Diego Extension.  

    Outside of work, LaKeshia enjoys spending quality time with her family, exploring new travel destinations, indulging in delicious strawberry cupcakes, and unwinding with her favorite romantic comedies.

    Angie Lu

    Angie has worked for UC San Diego since 2009. She started as a FoodPro Assistant with Housing Dining Hospitality and moved to Information Technology Services in 2017. She has a Master’s Degree in Business Administration with a specialization in Information Systems from San Diego State University and a Bachelor of Science in Management Science from UC San Diego. She also has a Lean Six Sigma Green Belt and a Project Management Professional certification. She is currently the lead project manager for the Enterprise Identity Management Project.

  • Antonio Nava

    Antonio Nava

    Antonio serves as a Program Analyst on UC San Diego’s Office of Operational Strategic Initiatives (OSI) team. Antonio is responsible for managing the Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt program, as well as supporting IdeaWave. Antonio has worked in higher education since 2006 in various capacities including Registrar Operations, institutional effectiveness and engagement, and program management. Antonio graduated from UCSD in 2007 with a degree in Theatre, and is keenly focused on affecting culture among staff and students. He was a leading member of Toastmasters for a number of years, created and maintained a student organization, and founded a networking committee in a previous university which launched several events aimed at addressing organizational silos.

    Bob Neuhard

    Bob currently serves as the Executive Director of the Office of Operational Strategic Initiatives which is charged with identifying, responding to, leading, and supporting unique initiatives and opportunities across campus on behalf of the Chancellor and the Chief Financial Officer. He specializes in building consensus in highly dynamic situations by developing comprehensive strategies and solutions to the most complicated and novel issues and opportunities. His focus is on strategic leadership and alliances, high impact negotiations, and delivering transformational outcomes.
  • Mike Osterling

    Mike Osterling

    Mike is a coach, facilitator, speaker, and consultant with more than 25 years’ experience leading Lean transformations and business performance improvement - from within, and as an external consultant. As a consultant, he has coached, trained, and facilitated leadership and improvement teams in a broad range of industries including healthcare, financial services, technology, manufacturing, distribution, and energy. The last few years have been years of dramatic change for Mike as he has helped multiple organizations transition their training, coaching, problem-solving and improvement activities - from the front lines to senior leadership – to virtual and hybrid formats.     Prachi Raheja

    Prachi Raheja is the program manager for Continuous Improvement in UC San Diego's IT Services department. She's an engineer and MBA with specialization in IT, and a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt. She is responsible for leading the continuous improvement program at IT Services and also for managing the Lean Bench – a select group of campus expert practitioners of Lean Six Sigma methodology leading crucial efforts around process improvement, operational excellence and business efficiency.

    Dr. LaWana Richmond is a Business Development Manager in the Transportation, Parking, and People Movement department at UC San Diego. Her responsibilities include project management, business analysis, customer and vendor relations, as well as change management. LaWana is a certified Project Management Professional with degrees in Marketing, Operations, Information Systems, and Educational Leadership. 
  • Steven Savini

    Steven Savini

    Steven Savini (he/him/his) is a Business Systems Analyst for Integrated Procure-to-Pay Solutions at UC San Diego. He provides technical support to the University’s Payee Management system, as well as develops technical and process solutions to further enhance the technology. A Lean Six Sigma Green Belt, Steven is also a UC San Diego alumnus and enjoys playing with his dog, cycling, and chess in his free time.
  • Brad Sollenberger

    Brad Sollenberger

    Brad is a Strategic Initiatives Manager at UC San Diego Office of Operational Strategic Initiatives with extensive Lean Six Sigma experience in higher education and healthcare, as well as a certified change practitioner. His areas of expertise are operational improvement, creative solution development, complex change management, system redesign and implementation, strategic planning, as well as space planning and optimization. Brad is the author of Lean Translated Strategy and a Yellow Belt training instructor.

    Gayle Ta

    With almost 25 years in higher education, Gayle Ta held a variety of administrative roles in the academic, business, research, and student services departments. She is currently a Director at Student Financial Solutions and Passport Services. Her focus areas include operational excellence, client excellence, talent management, technology, and financial sustainability. Gayle is a UC San Diego alumna, a board member of the UC San Diego Visual Arts Group, and an advisor for the NACUBO Student Financial Services Council. When she’s not working or volunteering, she enjoys painting, crocheting/knitting, and building Legos with her daughter.
  • Jimmy Thai

    Jimmy Thai

    Jimmy Thai's journey to success is a testament to the resilience and determination of the human spirit. As a "Boat People" refugee who escaped Vietnam 15 times and was imprisoned twice, Jimmy arrived in America with no English, money, or education. But through hard work and perseverance, he rose from a janitor at Miramar College to a Vice President for Technology with SAIC in 2011, a Fortune 500 company with $11Bil in revenue and 47K employees.

    Jimmy holds a BSEE degree from UCSD, as well as MSEE and MBA degrees, and has received executive leadership training at Harvard University and the Federal Executive Institute. Today, he devotes his time to Build a School Foundation, a 501.c.3 charity he founded and has built 123 schools for poor children around the world.

    Lynn directs Strategic Organizational Change Management for UC San Diego’s Enterprise Systems Renewal. She guides change teams for enterprise projects and leads ESR cross-portfolio and program organizational change management (OCM). Before coming to UC San Diego, Lynn directed Integrated Information for Global Guggenheim, Guggenheim Museum, NYC. She holds an M.A. in American Studies, M.A. Museum Practices, and a Masters of Library & Information Science. In her work she draws upon her knowledge and experience as a certified Project Management Processional (PMP), Certified Process Design Engineer (CPDE), LSS Black Belt, PROSCI Change Practitioner & Train-the-Trainer. ​
